On this day in Jefferson history…
” The Yellow Tavern,” on the Lake Mills Road, was built by William Torrey, & conducted by him & his wife for the convenience of the traveling public. No other public house existed between Madison & Milwaukee, & so it proved a great comfort to the farmers who had to go to one or the other with their products. A year or 2 later, a plank road was constructed between Portland & Milwaukee. A picture is included & was still standing in 1925.
